Zofran (ondansetron) May Have Caused Newborn’s Death

In a wrongful death lawsuit filed against GlaxoSmithKline (“GSK”) in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, Patrick and Valerie Reagan allege that the pharmaceutical company’s anti-nausea drug Zofran (ondansetron) caused their daughter Molly’s heart defects, leading to her death just three days after she was born. Zofran (ondansetron) is approved by the FDA for nausea and vomiting in cancer patients or those who underwent major surgery. The Reagans’ lawsuit claims that GSK promoted Zofran (ondansetron) off-label—for uses not approved by the FDA—to pregnant women to help combat morning sickness, but without warning of its risks. The family has since become active in raising awareness about fetal heart defects, but only recently learned that Zofran (ondansetron) may have caused their daughter’s condition.
